Which course is
right for you?
On this page :
1. Ascertain your Language level
To take courses and / or exams, you must choose a language pair and the direction of that language pair (e.g., EN > AR or AR > EN). Best practice dictates that linguists usually translate into their mother-tongue / strongest language.
Example - if you were raised, educated and lived most of your life in French, your language pair would be EN > FR (English to French). It is up to you to decide what you consider to be your strongest / mother-tongue language. For most qualifications, that is what you are tested on.
If your First Language is not English :
EN > Other Language
If your first (“mother-tongue”) language is not English, you will need to test your English.
The CEFR is the international standard for English learning. For each level, the CEFR describes what a learner can do in reading, listening, speaking and writing. Most organisations follow this guidance, including the CIOLQ.
